Thanks Charlie
Charlie Munger passed away at the age of 99.
The more you read about Charlie, the more you appreciate the weight of his thinking, values, decisions, and wisdom.
As many mourn his passing, let’s celebrate by reading some of the timeless quotes he has left for us.
Thanks, Charlie.
“Spend each day trying to be a little wiser than you were when you woke up.”
“It is remarkable how much long-term advantage people like us have gotten by trying to be consistently not stupid, instead of trying to be very intelligent.”
“Just because you like it does not mean that the world will necessarily give it to you.”
“I try to get rid of people who always confidently answer questions about which they don’t have any real knowledge.”
“I think Warren and I know the edge of our competency better than other people do.”
“A lot of success in life and business comes from knowing what you want to avoid: early death, a bad marriage, etc.”
“Envy is a really stupid sin because it’s the only one you could never possibly have any fun at. There’s a lot of pain and no fun. Why would you want to get on that trolley?”
“Knowing what you don’t know is more useful than being brilliant.”
“In my whole life, I have known no wise people who didn’t read all the time — none. Zero.”
See you next week.
Before you go
Stripe Press published a new edition of Poor Charlie’s Almanack and created a website dedicated to his thinking.
Ben and David at Acquired just interviewed Charlie last month.
Charlie recommended a few books for those who still read.
